Product Description

Slovakia has issued Euro coins since 2009. In 2012, Slovakia issued almost no euro coins. Of these 2012 Slovakian 1, 2 and 5 Cent coins only 45,000 copies were struck! On these 2012 Slovakian the top of Mount Krivan is depicted. This mountain is almost 2500 metres high and is part of the Tatra Mountains. This mountain is a symbol of Slovak national pride. Across the centre of the coins is the country name Slovensko (Slovakia). Under the country name is the year 2012, below which to the left and right are the mint marks. Centred between these marks is the Coat of Arms of Slovakia. This is a Gothic shield with three hills at the bottom with a double cross above it. In the outer ring of the coins are the 12 stars of Europe. Nice to know is that the Slovak coins have been struck in the same place since 1328! This is in Kremnica, which is in the centre of Slovakia. Almost 700 years ago Silver and Gold were found in the mountains and the King of Hungary gave his permission to strike the coins there and it remains so today!
