Product Description

Jan Bahyl was a major Slovak inventor, constructor and author of various patents. He was born into a farming family in 1856. He followed various technical courses, especially at Military Academy. He became Lieutenant in the Austrian / Hungarian army. He drew the first helicopter in 1894 but that was not a success. In 1895 he tried again and the helicopter managed a half-meter in the air! Therefore Jan Bahyl is seen as the inventor of the Helicopter. He further developed his life work and even received a patent from Emperor Franz Joseph. After retirement he wanted to further develop his projects, but lack of money hindered this. Yet his sketches and drawings are still in use today. Jan Bahyl died in 1916 and is buried in Bratislava under his own self-designed tombstone. In memory of Jan Bahyl Slovakia has issued a special BU set. On the BU set are shown several pictures of Jan Bahyl's constructions. The complete set of Euro coins of Slovakia is packed in the set. Additionally there is a nice coin included in the set on which Jan Bahyl and his helicopters can be seen. The issue of the BU set Slovakia 2017 Jan Bahyl is extremely low, only 2,000 copies have been produced!
