|Category||Coloured 2 euro coins|
This is the 2016 Spanish coloured special 2 Euro coin æSegoviaÆ. Segovia is a city in the middle of Spain, about 100 kilometres from Madrid. Segovia is famous for its famous aquaduct, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. An aquaduct is a channel that allows for the movement of water, usually by gravity. The Segovia aquaduct has been on UNESCO World Heritage List since 1985. It is unimaginable what the Romans could build about 2,000 years ago. This aquaduct consists of 20,400 granite blocks without the use of cement or concrete! Water is transported from the Frio River to Segovia. The aquaduct is 729 meters long, comprises 165 arches and was in use until 1960! In the coat of arms of the city of Segovia the aquaduct is clearly visible. This special 2016 Spanish 2 Euro coin shows the æAquaduct of SegoviaÆ. The aquaduct is displayed in its original colour on this beautiful coin. At the top of the coin is the country name España (Spain) along with the year 2016. Both are coloured in the National colours of Spain (red and yellow).
