Product Description

On October 9, 1817, the opening ceremony of the University of Ghent was celebrated. This opening was done by Mr. Ocker Repelaer van Driel in the presence of Crown Prince Willem. In 2017 it was 200 years since the University of Ghent was founded and to commemorate this Belgium has issued a special 2 Euro coin. On the face of the coin is the logo of the University of Ghent, a Greek Aula. At the top of this Aula is the triangular Fronton with seven columns below. At the bottom the stereo bar consists of two layers. On the left side of the coin is the year 1817 while on the right of the coin is the year 2017. In a circle we see the Dutch text æ200 Jaar Universiteit GentÆ and the English text æ200 years Ghent UniversityÆ. The official logo of the University also has two languages, Dutch and English. At the bottom of the coin are the letters BE, the abbreviation of Belgium. To the left and right of the country name are the mint marks. This is the French version of the Coincard. The French version is immediately recognizable. A picture of the Aula along with the 2017 Belgian 2 Euro are shown. It is remarkable that the logo of 200 Year Ghent University, both on the French Coincard and the Dutch Coincard, is both Dutch. The official logo of the University of Gent has two languages: English and Dutch. That's why a French Logo is not shown on the French Coincard!
