Product Description
On 9 October 1817 was the festive opening ceremony of the University of Ghent. This opening was done by Mr. Ocker Repelaer van Driel in the presence of Crown Prince Willem. In 2017 it is 200 years since the University of Ghent was founded and to commemorate this Belgium has issued a special 2 Euro coin. On the front of the coin is the logo of the University of Ghent û a Greek Aula. At the top of this Aula you can see the triangular Fronton with seven columns below. The stereobate (base) consists of two layers. On the left side of the coin is the year 1817 whilst on the right side of the coin is the year 2017. In a circle is the text æ200 years Ghent UniversityÆ in both Dutch and English. The official logo of the University also has two languages, Dutch and English. At the bottom of the coin are the letters BE, the abbreviation of the country name Belgium. The mint marks are to the left and right of the country name code. This coin is Silvered.
