Product Description

Pieter Bruegel was possibly born in the year 1525. Painters from that time often registered between the ages of 21 and 25. Pieter Bruegel is registered in the register of the Antwerp Saint Luke Guild. It is assumed that Pieter Bruegel was born in 1525. The estimates of his birth year are between 1525 and 1530. It is not even known exactly where Pieter Bruegel was born. Pieter Bruegel was a true adventurer who visited many cities and a number of countries, when painters used to travel more often. This to broaden their outlook with scenes that were then sketched and painted. Pieter Bruegel even made a long journey with other masters to the warmer climes of Italy. There are drawings preserved from during his time in Rome. In 1548 the Netherlands were declared an autonomous region with Brussels as the capital. 15 years later, in the year 1563, Pieter Bruegel moved to Brussels. He had at least three children here and two of his sons later became artists. Making an impression as an artist was really in the family. As a reminder of this 450th anniversary of his death Belgium is issuing a special 10 Euro coin. On the face of the 10 Euro coin is a portion of the painting "The battle between the money bags and strongboxes" by Pieter Bruegel. The coins are made using 2 different printing styles - both a part in 3D and a part in etching. This makes the coin very special. Around the image are the words "P. Bruegel" and "The Elder". The years 1569 and 2019 are also shown with a cross of death next to the year 1569. On the reverse of the coin is the map of the European Union. The country name of Belgium (Belgique, België and Belgien) is shown on the coin in its three national languages - being French, Dutch and German! The 12 stars of Europe and the Europa Star are also shown on the coin together with the value indication of 10 Euro and the year 2019. Furthermore, the mint master's mark and the mint mark are displayed. The coin is presented in luxury packaging and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
