Product Description
The Brussels Pawnshop, officially called "Berg van Barmhartigheid" (Mount of Piety) was founded in 1618. The Mountain of Mercy is the oldest official financial institution in Belgium. It is the only institution in Belgium that is authorized to borrow against collateral. Approximately 60,000 objects, usually jewellery, coins or works of art, are pledged each year against approximately 29,000 loans. In the year 2018 it is 400 years ago that the Mountain of Mercy was founded and to commemorate this a special Belgian 2.5 Euro coin has been issued. On the front of the coin is the logo of the Mountain of Mercy, a winged Panther with the letter B in the background. At the top of the coin the French text "Mont de Piété" is shown whilst at the bottom is the corresponding Dutch text "Berg van Barmhartigheid". To the left of the logo is the year 1618 and to the right is the year 2018. The coin is mounted in a beautiful coincard on the front of which is a picture of Jean Béraud's Painting "Mont de Piété". On the back of the coincard the reception hall of the office of the Mountain of Mercy is depicted. The Dutch version of this Coincard is recognized by the Dutch and English text on the front of the coincard. On the back of the Dutch version is the French and the German text
