Product Description

'Manneken Pis' is a statue of a boy who is peeing. This statue is only 58 cm high and is located in the centre of Brussels. In the year 1619, the City of Brussels ordered the Dutch sculptor Hieronymus Duquesnoy the Elder to design a peeing fountain, Manneken Pis is the result of the design. It is a globally-known statue that attracts millions of visitors every year. A legend says that a meteor had struck near the city of Brussels which would explode if no one would pee over it. However, the person who would pee on the meteor would turn into a statue that would pee forever. Manneken Pis is one of the smallest statues in the world but it does have the largest wardrobe in the world! With almost 1000 different costumes he can almost dress up three times a day for the year. His oldest costumes are hundreds of years old! To celebrate that Manneken Pis has been around for 400 years, it has been decided to issue a special 2.5 Euro coin about this. On the face of the coin Manneken Pis is shown in his usual position, leaning back slightly. In addition, the column where he stands is also shown. The name of the statue 'Manneken Pis' and the text 400 years are also displayed. The reverse of the coin shows the country name of Belgium in its three national languages i.e. German, French and Dutch - Belgien, Belgique and België. The value indication of 2.5 Euro is also displayed. The mint marks of the Belgian mint are shown on the coin together with the map of Europe. This coin is mounted in an attractive coincard. The Dutch version of the coincard can be recognized by the text that is displayed on the front in both Dutch and English.
