Product Description
In 1920 the Summer Olympics were held in Antwerp, Belgium. This 7th edition of the Summer Olympics was held over a year after the end of the 1st World War, (11th November, 1918). Due to the great impact that the 1st World War had in Belgium, it was decided to hold the Summer Olympics here. During these Summer Olympics 29 countries participated with a total of 2,670 participants. During these games the Olympic Oath was taken, by Victor Boin, for the first time. Also, the Olympic Flag, with the five rings, was hoisted for the first time, and doves, symbolizing Peace were released, also for the first time. On the face of the coin is an image of the statue 'Myron of Eleuthera's' discus thrower. Above this image is the city name 'ANTWERP' together with the year 1920. In the background Antwerp's Olympic stadium is depicted along with the Belgian flag in its own colours. At the bottom of the coin, written in Greek, is the text 'VII OLYMPIADE' (7th Olympic Games). On the reverse of the coin is an image of the map of Europe. On the right-hand side, the country name of Belgium is shown in its three national languages BELGIE - BELGIQUE - BELGIEN (Dutch, French and German). The va lue indication of 2.50 Euro is shown on the left, with the year of issue 2020 below. This coloured 2.5 Euro coin is mounted in a Coincard.
