Product Description

The year 1525 is the year in which Pieter Bruegel was possibly born. Painters of the period often enrolled between their 21st and 25th birthday. Pieter Bruegel is registered in the register of the Antwerp Saint Luke Guild. It is assumed that Pieter Bruegel was born in 1525. The estimates of his birth year are between 1525 and 1530. It is not exactly known where Pieter Bruegel was born. Pieter Bruegel was a real adventurer who visited many cities and a number of countries. Artists used to travel in order to broaden their view, which was then sketched and painted. Pieter Bruegel has even made a long journey with other masters to the warmer Italy. There are even drawings that have been preserved during his time in Rome. In 1548 the Netherlands were proclaimed an autonomous region with Brussels as its capital. 15 years later in the year 1563 Pieter Bruegel moved to Brussels. Here he had at least three children and two of his sons later also became painters. Making an impression as an artist was really in the family. In commemoration of his 450th anniversary, Belgium has issued a special 2 Euro coin. On the face of the coin Pieter Bruegel, a man with a long beard, is portrayed looking to the left. He wears a characteristic woollen beret on his head. On his easel a part of his work 'The Tower of Babel' is depicted. On the coin the dates 1569 and 2019 are shown. Behind the year 1569 a cross of death is also pictured. His name P. Bruegel is also shown on the coin. This is the French version of the Coincard described above. The coin is mounted in a beautiful coincard with the text on the front written in French and in German. On the back of the coincard the text is written in Dutch and English. On the front of the Coincard is the 'Tower of Babel' which he painted in 1563 and on the back of the coincard is the 'Peasant Wedding' which was painted in 1568.
