Product Description

On June 6, 2019 it is 75 years since the Allies arrived on the beaches of Normandy resulting in the liberation of Western Europe. This day, D-Day, has ensured that there is peace and freedom in Europe. As a tribute to the countless victims the Royal Mint of Belgium has decided to issue a special 5 Euro coin. On the face of the coin 5 amphibious vehicles are depicted û the arrows indicate the landing points where these amphibious vehicles came ashore. Amphibious vehicles can sail on water and travel over land. Furthermore, the monument that stands on Omaha Beach, in France, is represented. The text 'D-DAY' and '6-6-1944' along with the year 2019 are also shown. The reverse side of the coin shows the map of Europe. Additionally, the year 2019 is displayed together with the value indication of 5 Euro. The 12 stars of Europe are also shown. On the left is the text 'BELGIEN, BELGIQUE, BELGIE (the country name of 'Belgium' in its three official languages)'. On the front of the Coincard is a representation of an amphibious vehicle from which the Allied troops stormed the beaches of Normandy. On the back of the Coincard the memorial that commemorates all the victims of this operation, which is on Omaha Beach in France, is depicted. The circulation of this coin is 12,500 pieces and was sold out in no time at the Royal Belgian Mint.
