Product Description

It was turbulent times about 100 years ago. The First World War was near its end, the Russian Revolution took place and some countries took advantage of that situation to become independent. Finland became an independent country in the year 1917 and in 2017 is the 100th anniversary of this. There will be a number of special coins issued in the year 2017 with the theme of the 100th anniversary of Finland as an independent country. The first coin from 2017 that Finland has issued is the 10 Euro coin with the theme of 100 Years of Independence. Both sides are designed by two young students. The face of the coin is designed by Jennifer Tuomisto where a handshake between two hands is depicted. The hands have different colours, light and dark, to exclude any form of discrimination. The value of 10 Euro and the country Name Suomi (Finnish for Finland) and Finland (Swedish) are printed. The reverse of the coin was designed by Saara Peltomäki. In the centre there is a very small picture of Finland, with a large number of annual tree rings. These annual rings represent Finland's 100th anniversary. The year 2017, the Finnish logo, and mint sign are also shown. The coin is presented in a luxury package.
