Product Description

Raphael of Urbino (Raffaello Sanzio) was an Italian painter. Raphael was born in Urbino in 1483, where his birthplace can still be seen. In his childhood home his father's works can still be admired. A painting by Raphael himself, called 'La Muta', can also be viewed. Urbino is an old town in Italy that received UNESCO status in 1998. Raphael got his inspiration from the works of Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo. Raphael was a brilliant portrait painter, he mainly painted his works with oil paint. Raphael, although only 37 years old, has painted many masterpieces in his lifetime. Due to his death, 500 years ago, San Marino has decided to issue a 2 Euro coin in his memory. This coloured 2 Euro coin of San Marino 2020 shows a detail of the painting 'La Muta'. At the bottom of the coin his name 'Raffaello' is shown while to the upper right is the country name, San Marino, with the years 1520 and 2020 next to it. This coloured 2 Euro coin is packed in a coin capsule.
