Product Description
This is the second coin from a three-part series with the theme 'On the way to the sky'. This second coin of this series has as subject 'The era of the motorised aircraft'. The very first motorised aircraft was developed by the Wright brothers. The first motorised plane that was built in Austria was the 'Etrich-Taube' (Etrich pigeon) which was built by Igo Etrich. He was inspired by the seed of the Zanonia macrocarpa, a palm growing on Java. Igo Etrich built a Zononia-winged machine and placed a 60 HP Porsche engine underneath. On 10th October, 1910 the Etrich-Taube flew from Vienna to Horn, in the Netherlands, and back again - a record! Soon the first passenger plane, the Junkers JU 52, followed. This plane was introduced in 1932, the start of the fastest means of transport in the world! On the face of the coin the Etrich-Taube, with its characteristic single-propeller-engine, is depicted along with the country name 'REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH' (Republic of Austria) and the value indication of 20 Euro. The year 2019 is shown at the bottom. The reverse side of the coin shows the Junkers JU 52, the first passenger aircraft in the world, flying between the mountains. 17 people could be transported in the Junkers JU 52. The coin is packed in a beautiful cassette.
