2023 Austria 3 Euro coin 'Anglerfish'. Austria has issued a 3 Euro coin with the theme of the Anglerfish (also known as Monkfish, among other names). The Anglerfish lives at depths of 300 to 950 metres. The females have a kind of fishing rod at the front of their head (illicium) which is equipped with a luminous organ (Esca). The anglerfish reproduces in a very special way! The males bite into a female's stomach and literally fuse them into an organism. Anglerfish can grow to almost 2 metres in length and weigh more than 40 kilos! On the face of the coin an anglerfish is seen in the extreme darkness.
