Product Description
The 'Wiener Musikverein' is located in Vienna. This concert hall is the home of the Viennese Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1863, Emperor Frans Joseph I of Austria commissioned the construction of the concert hall. The Wiener Musikverein was opened in 1870 and consists of no fewer than 6 halls. The largest room, called the golden room, (Großer Musikvereinssaal, Goldener Saal) consists of 1744 seats and over 300 standing places! When the orchestra plays in this room the customers continue to hear the reverberations for 2 to 3 seconds. It has been 150 years since the Wiener Musikverein opened its doors, which is why Austria has decided to issue a 5 Euro coin to commemorate this. On the face of the coin the Greek god Apollo is depicted. Apollo was, among other things the god of Music. In the background is the Golden Hall of the Wiener Musikverein. The year of issue, 2020, is shown at the bottom. The reverse side of all Austrian 5 Euro coins is the same. The coin is not round but nine-sided because Austria has nine Länder (provinces). The coats of arms of these provinces are pictured on the reverse of the coin. In the centre of the coin is the value indication of 5 Euro.
