Tijl Uilenspiegel (Tijl Owl Mirror) is a figure originally derived from the Middle Ages. Its origins are around 1500 in Germany. He was known as a good man who experienced humorous adventures. The author Charles de Coster revived Tijl Uilenspiegel in 1867 by rewriting his adventures in a Flemish setting. The name Owl was previously associated with stupid.
