Product Description

Perhaps the most famous border that Europe has ever known was The Berlin Wall. The Berlin Wall was more than 45 kilometres long and separated West Berlin from East Berlin. When the Second World War was over, Berlin was divided into four occupation zones. Russia was given control of one of these four zones to temporarily manage. The other countries that were allocated a zone were France, Britain and the United States. West Berlin wanted to introduce a new currency, the Deutsche Mark, to prevent a new wave of inflation and to stop the black trade. Russia absolutely disagreed with this and saw it as a threat. It was decided to build the wall to protect the border and the new currency. To commemorate the fall of the Berlin Wall (30 years ago), Belgium has decided to issue a gold 12.5 Euro coin. On the face of this golden 12.5 Euro coin is a representation of the first demolished part of the wall, from which a dove of peace flies into the free world. Behind this the Brandenburg Gate is depicted. In addition, the years 1989 and 2019 are shown. The twig carried by the dove includes a disc which has the number 30 on it, this refers to the fall of the Berlin wall 30 years ago. On the reverse of the coin the country name of Belgium is written in its three main languages (Dutch, French and German) BELGIË - BELGIQUE - BELGIEN. Furthermore, the Belgian lion, who symbolically holds the constitution, is shown below which the value indication of 12.5 euros is also shown. The coin is presented in a beautiful Cassette.
