2021 Belgium 12.50 Euro Gold coin 'Antwerp Diamond City'. Antwerp is the capital of the province of Antwerp and has more than 530,000 inhabitants. In the year 1500 Antwerp had 40,000 inhabitants. When the Indian diamonds were brought directly to Antwerp, from the year 1508, the number of inhabitants grew explosively. In 40 years the number of inhabitants increased to more than 100,000! The Antwerp diamond cutters were seen as some of the best in the world. From the 19th century, when the Jewish diamond workers moved to Antwerp, exceptional perfection only increased. Nowadays, the diamond workers of Antwerp are indispensable! To commemorate that more than 500 years ago the first diamond was cut in Antwerp the Belgian Mint has issued a Gold 12.50 Euro coin. On the face of the coin a beautiful diamond is depicted. Furthermore, written in English, is the text 'ANTWERP - CITY OF DIAMONDS'. The reverse of the coin shows the usual Belgian lion symbolically holding the constitution. The value indication of 12.50 Euro is shown below.
