Belgium 12½ Euro Gold 2020 Jane Brigode

Belgium has issued a Gold 12,5 Euro coin with 'Jane Brigode' as its subject. Jane Brigode was a Belgian liberal politician and feminist. She was one of the few women allowed to attend higher education, she graduated as a teacher. In 1913 she became president of the Belgian League for Women's Rights. When in 1914 the 1st World War occurred she immediately set up the 'Union Patriotique des femmes Belges' (Patriotic Union of Belgian Women). She appointed herself as chairperson thereby making it one of the most important aid organizations. In 1918 she again demanded that women should have the right to vote. 30 years later, in 1948, the time had finally come - General Women's Voting Rights were born! On the face of the coin is a portrait of Jane Brigode with the Venus symbol and her name next to the image. The year of issue is shown on the right of the coin. On the reverse of the coin the Belgian Lion is depicted symbolically holding the constitution, the value indication of 12.5 Euro is shown below this image. At the top of the coin, Belgium is written in its three official languages (Dutch, French and German) 'BELGIE - BELGIQUE - BELGIEN'. The coin is presented in a beautiful cassette and is supplied complete with a certifica te of authenticity.
