Product Description
Joseph Poelaert (1817-1879) was a famous Belgian architect from Brussels. His best known work was the colossal æPalace of JusticeÆ. This was the largest single building in the world in the 19th century. In 2017, it was 200 years since Joseph Poelaert was born, and in order to commemorate this Belgium has issued a special Euro 20 coin. On the left side of the face of the coin is the dome of the æPalace of JusticeÆ, while on the right side is an image of the corpulent Joseph Poelaert looking to the left. In an arc on the left is his name Joseph Poelaert and at the bottom of the coin are the years 1817 and 2017. On the reverse of the coin is the map of Europe. On the left are the 12 stars of Europe and at the top of the coin is the value of 20 Euro and the year 2017. The country name is seen on the right in the three official Belgian languages: French, Dutch and German.
