Belgium 5 Euro 2018 The Smurfs 60 Years

The Smurfs have existed for 60 years! To commemorate this, Belgium has issued a special commemorative 5 Euro coin. The Smurfs originated from an idea by Peyo. That was in the late 1950's. An exact date is not known but is assumed to be 1958. In fact the Smurfs were based on French where they are called Les Schtroumpfs. Later on the Dutch name æSmurfsÆ came into being! The French roots are also noticeable from the Phrygian Beanies that the 101 different Smurfs wear. These is coloured white like the trousers and shoes. The bodies of these little blue dwarfs is coloured light blue. Well-known Smurfs are the Great Smurf, Smurfette, the Euro coin Smurf, the Music Smurf, the Sturdy Smurf and not to forget their biggest enemy Garmamel with his cat Azrael. On the face of the coin a Smurf is depicted happily jumping over the number 60. Furthermore, the French name æLes SchtroumpfÆ is shown with the year 2018 below it. At the bottom of the coin is the Dutch name æDe SmurfenÆ. On the reverse of the coin, to the left, is the map of Europe. Furthermore, the country name is shown in its three official languages û België (Dutch), Belgien (German) and Belgique (French). Furthermore, in a vertical bar the value indication of 5 Euro and the year 2018 are shown. It is remarkable that the year can be seen on both the face and reverse of the coin. There 12 stars of Europe are shown in two groups of six. The coin is presented in a luxury package and is delivered with a certificate of authenticity.
