Product Description

Tintin (Kuifje in Belgium) is known from the comic series The Adventures of Tintin. Georges Remi (1907-1983) launched Tintin in the year 1929. It is now 90 years since Tintin first appeared, hence the Royal Belgian Mint has issued this coin. Tintin was inseparable from his dog Snowy (in Belgium Bobbie) and almost all of the adventures were shared by the two of them. The kuifje (tuft of hair) was created in one of the very first cartoon strips, Tintin got into a car with an open roof (convertible) and the wind blew his hair into this well-known shape. This form has never left and has ensured that many people in the world know Tintin. This coin is based on a black-and-white edition that took place in Congo. This 5 Euro coin is mounted in a coincard, on the front of which a piece of jungle is pictured. On the front of the coincard are the texts, in Dutch and French, Official 5 Euro Commemorative Coin, 90 year Tintin and the years 1929-1919. On the back of the coincard you see Tintin and Snowy sitting by a campfire and their tent. The texts on the back of the coincard are in English and German. On the face of the coin Tintin and Snowy are sitting by a campfire! The name Hergé the pseudonym of the writer Georges Remi, is also shown. The text Since 1929 appears at the top of the coin. On the reverse of the coin is the map of Europe and the text Belgien, Belgique and Belgie (the country name of Belgium in its three national languages German, French and Dutch). The value indication of 5 Euro is also displayed along with the year 2019. The Belgian mint marks are also displayed.
