Product Description

Estonia has issued a beautiful special coin with a nominal value of €15 to commemorate the 150th birthday of Jaan Tõnisson (1868-1941). Estonia produced several politicians, but one of the most esteemed Estonians was the Statesman Jaan Tõnisson. Jaan Tõnisson made a big impression on the political history of Estonia. The year 1896 was an important year for Jaan Tõnisson with the issue of the Postimees newspaper with Tõnisson as its publisher. He pleaded for an independent Estonia and was in constant controversy with Russia and Germany. Tõnisson was elected to Estonia's new parliament and held positions such as various Ministers, President of the Parliament, and has been appointed as a Statesman several times. After the occupation of Estonia by Russia in 1940, he turned against the Russians who arrested him, and he was executed somewhere by the Russians in 1941. To commemorate the 150th birthday of Jaan Tõnisson, Estonia has issued this special €15 coin. On the face of the coin Jaan Tõnisson is portrayed looking diagonally to the left. On the right side of the coin is his name Jaan Tõnisson and at the bottom of the coin is the value indication of 15 Euro. On the left side of the coin the three lions from the coat of arms of Estonia are depicted, appearing to be running out of the coin. These lions are coloured in the colours of the Estonian flag, being Blue, Black and White. On the reverse of the coin, on the left side, is the coat of arms of Estonia next to which is the text "Eesti Vabariik" (Republic of Estonia). Between these two words the year 2018 is shown. On the right side of the coin, as if entering the coin, the three lions of the Estonian crest are looking forwards. The three lions are coloured Blue, Black and White. The coin is presented in a luxury package and comes with an extensive numbered certificate of no less than 36 small pages. The circulation of this coin is only 5,000 copies.
