Product Description
The 'Tartu Peace Treaty' was signed on 2nd February, 1920 between Estonia and Soviet Russia, bringing to an end the Estonian War of Independence. The war between Estonia and the Bolsheviks (Russians) started on 22nd November, 1918 and lasted until 2nd February, 1920. When Estonia was recognized as an independent country it received 15 million gold Roubles from Russia to repair the damage in the country. In June 1940, Soviet troops again invaded Estonia and the treaty was violated. Estonia could not call itself independent again until 1991. To commemorate the first independence of Estonia 100 years ago, it was decided to issue a special 2 Euro coin. This 2020 Estonian coloured 2 Euro coin shows a branch with many leaves on it, which indicates the flowering of Estonia after the bloody time. This tree contains the words 'Tartu Rahu' (Peace Treaty of Tartu). At the bottom of this coloured 2 Euro coin is the country name 'Eesti' (Estonia) along with the date '02.02. 2020'. The coin is packaged in a coin capsule.
