France 10 x 10 Euro 2020 "The Smurfs" Part 1

France is going to issue a total of 20 coins with 'The Smurfs' as their subject. These will be in two parts of 10 coins each, where these are the first 10. These 10 x 10 Euro coins are all different and each coin consists of a different Smurf. Naturally 'Gargamel' and 'Azraël' are included. 10 coins from this series are coloured and the other 10 are not coloured. This first part consists of 5 coloured Smurf coins and 5 uncoloured coins. The Smurfs originated in the late 1950's from an idea of Peyo. An exact date is not known but it is based on 1958. Actually, the Smurfs were based on French where they are called Les Schtroumpf. Later the Dutch name Smurfs arose from this! The French roots are recognised through the Phrygian Beanies that the 101 different Smurfs wear. Like the pants and shoes, the hats are coloured white. The body of these little dwarfs is coloured light blue. Well-known Smurfs are the Papa Smurf, the Smurfette, the Euro Smurf, the Music Smurf, the Potty Smurf, not to mention their greatest enemy 'Gargamel' with his cat 'Azraël'.
