France 2 Euro 2019 Fall of the Berlin Wall

Perhaps the most famous border that Europe has ever known - The Berlin Wall. The Berlin Wall was more than 45 kilometres long and it separated West and East Berlin. When the Second World War was over, Berlin was divided into four occupation zones. Russia was given one of these four occupation zones to temporarily manage. The other countries that were allocated a zone were France, Great Britain and the United States. West Berlin wanted to introduce a new currency, the Deutsche Mark. The currency was introduced to prevent a new wave of inflation and to stop the black trade. Russia absolutely did not agree with this and saw it as a threat. It was decided to build a wall to protect the border and the new currency. To commemorate the fall of the Berlin Wall, Germany and France have decided to issue a joint 2 Euro coin. On the face of this coin the first demolished section of the wall, from which doves of peace fly into the free world, is symbolically depicted. At the top of the coin a person is shown standing in front of the Bundesrat, filled with joy, with hands in the air. On the left on the coin the texts '30 ans de la Chute du Mur' and '30 Jahre Mauerfall' (30 Years Fall of the Berlin Wall) are shown. At the bottom of the coin is the year 2019 with the mint marks of France on the right. On the right are the letters RF, the abbreviation for the Republic of France. The coin is packed in a printed coin holder.
