Germany 2 Euro 2020 'Warsaw Genuflection'

Germany has issued its second 2 Euro coin in 2020 with the theme the 'Warsaw Genuflection'. It has been 50 years since West German Chancellor Willy Brandt spontaneously fell to his knees at a monument to the victims of the Warsaw uprising. In Warsaw more than 380,000 German Jews lived in an area enclosed by a three-metre high wall of barbed wire and were completely cut off from the world. In July 1942 the Nazis began to deport the Jews who lived here to the concentration camps where they were killed. When the last 50,000 Jews realized they were being taken to death camps they revolted en masse. Unfortunately none of these people survived this. It has been 50 years since Willy Brandt fell to his knees, which is why Germany has decided to issue a 2 Euro coin with this as its subject. On the face of the coin Chancellor Willy Brandt is depicted on his knees in front of the 'Heroes of the Ghetto' monument. Furthermore, the text '50 Jahre Kniefall von Warsaw' (50 years of Warsaw Genuflection) is shown. Beneath the image of the monument is the letter 'D'. This letter D indicates the country name Deutschland (Germany). The year 2020 is shown in the centre left of the coin. Below the year is the letter indicating in which mint the coin was struck. German coins are struck in one of five mints each of which are indicated by a letter, i.e. A = Berlin, D = Munich, F = Stuttgart, G = Karlsruhe and J = Hamburg. This coin is packaged in a printed coin holder.
