Product Description

Germany has issued its second 2 Euro in 2020 with the theme 'The Genuflection of Warsaw'. It has been 50 years since West German Chancellor Willy Brandt spontaneously fell to his knees at a monument to the victims of the Warsaw uprising. In Warsaw, more than 380,000 German Jews lived in an area enclosed by a three-metre high wall, topped with barbed wire, and were completely cut off from the world. In July 1942, the Nazis began to deport the Jews who lived here to the concentration camps where they were killed. When the last 50,000 Jews realized they were being taken to death camps they revolted en masse. Unfortunately, no person survived this revolt. It has been 50 years since Willy Brandt fell to his knees, which is why Germany has decided to issue a 2 Euro coin with this as its subject. On the face of the coin Chancellor Willy Brandt is depicted kneeling in front of the 'Heroes of the Ghetto' monument. Furthermore, the text '50 Jahre Kniefall von Warsaw' (50 years Warsaw Genuflection) is shown. Under the monument is the letter D. This letter D indicates the country name Deutschland (Germany). The year 2020 can be found in the centre left of the coin. Below the year is the letter indicating the location of the mint. German coins are struck in one of five mints, each indicated by a different letter i.e. A = Berlin, D = Munich, F = Stuttgart, G = Karlsruhe and J = Hamburg. This series contains coins from all five mints. The quality of the coins is BU (Brilliant Uncirculated), which in German, is called 'Stempelglanz'. The coins are mounted in a beautiful Coincard.
