Product Description

Annually, since 2006, Germany has issued a special 2 Euro coin of a Bundesland (province), depicting an important object of that Bundesland. In the year 2021, the theme is 'Magdeburg Cathedral' which is located in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt. Saxony-Anhalt is located in the middle of Germany, between Hanover, Berlin and Leipzig. The province of Saxony-Anhalt covers an area of over 20,000 km2 and has more than 2.2 million inhabitants. The capital of this province is Magdeburg. Construction of the Gothic Cathedral started in 1209 and was completed in 1520. Thus, the building of this colossal structure took more than three centuries. The face of the coin shows Magdeburg Cathedral, below which is the name of the federal state displayed in German 'Sachsen-Anhalt'. At the bottom is the letter 'D' which indicates the country name Deutschland (Germany). At the top of the coin is the year 2021. The German coins are struck at five different mints which are indicated by a letter, e.g. A = Berlin, D = Munich, F = S tuttgart, G = Karlsruhe and J = Hamburg, this letter is shown on the left side of the coin. The quality of the coin is BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) which in German is called 'Stempelglanz'. The coin is mounted in a beautiful coincard where brief information about Saxony-Anhalt is printed.
