Germany 2 Euro 2022 'Wartburg - Thuringia'. Annually, since 2006, Germany has issued a special 2 Euro coin from a Bundesland (province) depicting an important object from that Bundesland. The theme of the 2022 German special 2 Euro coin is Wartburg which is located in the German state of Thuringia. The state of Thuringia is located in the middle of Germany and its capital is Erfurt. Wartburg is a castle that sits on a 442-metre high hill in Eisenach. The castle was originally built in the 11th century - the exact year is unknown. Over the centuries the castle was expanded further and further. Wartburg castle is depicted on the face of the coin with the name Thuringen beneath. At the bottom is the letter 'D' which indicates the country name Deutschland (Germany). At the top left of the coin is the year 2022. The German coins are struck in one of five mints which are indicated by a different letter - A = Berlin, D = Munich, F = Stuttgart, G = Karlsruhe and J = Hamburg. This mint letter is shown at the top right of the coin. This series contains the coins from all five of the German mints. They are all packaged in printed coin holders.
