Product Description
Ernst Otto Fischer (1918-2007) was a German Chemist and Professor of Inorganic Chemistry. Ernst Otto Fischer received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1973 (together with the Englishman Geoffrey Wilkinson). Ernst Otto Fischer received the Nobel Prize for his pioneering research on Metal-Carbon compounds. These so-called Dibenzo-chromium compounds show unusual stability and are used in hydrogen reactions. In the year 2018 it is 100 years since Ernst Otto Fischer was born and in memory of this Germany has issued a special silver coin with a nominal value of 20 Euro. On the face of the coin is an artistically transformed model of the research results of Fischer, the so-called Dibenene chromium with a double cone structure. On the left side of the coin is his name Ernst Otto Fischer and on the right side of the coin the text 100. Geburtstag (100th birthday). In the centre of the reverse side of the coin the German Eagle is depicted in harmony with, and according to, the model on the face of the coin. To the left and right of the eagle are the twelve stars of Europe equally divided. At the top of the coin is the value indication of 20 Euro with the word Bundesrepublik (Federal Republic) below. At the bottom of the coin is the country name Deutschland (Germany) underneath which is the year 2018. Furthermore, the letter D, which indicates the Munich mint, the city where Ernst Otto Fischer was professor at the University for many years. The edge lettering of the coin is NATURAL BISH SIND WIND GUT NO BOESE (Natural Sciences are neither good nor evil).
