Product Description

Freiburg is a city located in the German state of Baden-Würrtemberg, with 235,652 inhabitants and bordering the Black Forest. Freiburg is located at an altitude of 278 metres. In the year 1120 Freiburg was founded by Duke Bertold III of Zühringen as a free market town. Freiburg is located at a trading point between the Mediterranean Sea and the North Sea, which allowed the city to develop into a very rich and well-visited city. The city has, at times, been under the rule of Austria, Switzerland, France and Spain and of course Germany. Freiburg Cathedral is the oldest building in the city. The construction of the cathedral started in 1183 and was completed in 1536. Because the city got official rights 900 years ago it was decided to issue a 20 Euro coin. On the obverse of the coin 'Freiburg' is printed in a banner with a number of people behind it. To the right of these people is the Cathedral of Freiburg and on the left is a bunch of grapes and some old houses. At the top of the coin the hills of Freiburg are depicted, above which is the text '900 Jahre' (900 years). At the bottom of the coin is a boat sailing through the canals of Freiburg. On the reverse of the coin is the text 'Bundesrepublik Deutschland' (Federal Republic of Germany) together with the year of issue, 2020, and the value indication of 20 Euro. The famous German Federal Eagle is centred on the coin. The coin is made of Sterling Silver (Ag 925), which is shown beneath the eagle (silber 925). The coin is packed in a printed coin holder.
