Germany 5 Euro 2020 Polar Zone - set of 5 Proof

This is the fourth coin from the German five-part series of 5 Euro coins with the subject of the Earth's climate zones. This series of coins with a coloured ring will be issued in the years 2017 to 2021. The colours of the rings are as follows - 2017 = red, 2018 = orange, 2019 = green, 2020 = turquoise and 2021 = purple. The 2020 German 5 Euro coin has the theme of the 'Polar Zone' and has a turquoise ring. The Polar zones are located north of the Arctic Circle and south of the Antarctic Circle. Most of the surface of these areas used to be permanently covered by snow and ice. The sun shines obliquely on these areas so less heat is absorbed by the soil. In summer it is daylight in the Arctic and Antarctic lasts for 24 hours, and in winter it is dark 24 hours a day! Due to global warming the ice is disappearing faster and faster and it is expected that in 25 years there will be no more ice. On the face of the coin an Elk is depicted on a piece of ice. The coin shows icebergs and ice sheets which are characteristic of these areas. In addition, a tower of a research station is shown. At the bottom of the coin is the text 'SUBPOLARE ZONE'. The reverse of this series of coins is always the same, i.e. in the centre is the Federal Eagle with the mint letter above the Eagle's head. German coins are struck in five different places, this can be seen by the letter of the mint and the shade of the turquoise rings. At the bottom of the coin is the year 2020. In the outer ring of the coin is the country name 'Bundesrepublik Deutschland' (Federal Republic of Germany). Furthermore, the value indication of 5 Euro is shown with the 12 stars of Europe unevenly distributed around it. Additionally, the turquoise ring, which is made of the material Polymer is immediately noticed. The edge lettering of the coin is 'CLIMATE ZONES DER ERDE' (Climate zones of the Earth). The quality of the coins is Proof which means that the coins are struck with a special stamp. The coins are presented in a luxury Plexiglas packaging, which makes this beautiful coin stand out even more. A turquoise band has been made around this packaging to further emphasize the coin.
