Greece 10 Euro 2022 'Xenophon'. Xenophon was a Greek writer who lived around 430 BC. He was born near Athens, in the Attic deme (Erchia suburb). Xenophon came from a wealthy aristocratic family. He had a very good relationship with Socrates which had a great influence on his writing. Xenophon went along with the Peloponnesian War and later wrote his best-known book about it 'Anabasis'. He eventually defected to the Spartans and became a friend of the then current King 'Agesilaus II'. For his services rendered he received from Sparta a large piece of land near Scillus, where he lived for years. In the end he had to flee here, because Sparta lost a great battle to the Thebans. He then went to Corinth, where he eventually died. On the face of the coin is a portrait of Xenophon and his name is displayed in Greek. The year of issue, 2022, is also shown.
