Greece 2 Euro 2020 '100 Years Incorporation of Thrace'

The theme of the 2020 Greek 2 Euro coin is '100 years after the incorporation of Thrace'. Thrace is located in the northeast of Greece and borders both Bulgaria and Turkey. It is a relatively poor area with many cotton and tobacco plantations. A number of well-known nature reserves in the area of Thrace are the 'Nestos Delta' (Keramoti) and the 'Dadia Forest'. Thrace borders no less than three seas, namely the Aegean Sea, the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara. In addition to the wonderful ecological beauties that these seas bring with them, it used to be a massive strategic location which has known many rulers. The reunification of Thrace with Greece, 100 years ago, is remembered with this coin issue. On the face of the coin is an image of a 2500 year-old coin from Thrace depicting a Griffin. The modern Greek text meaning '100 years after the incorporation of Thrace' and 'Republic of Greece' together with the year 2020 encircles the representation of this ancient coin. The coin is packaged in a printed coin holder.
