Greece 2 Euro 2021 '200 Years since the Greek Revolution'. This special 2021 Greek 2 Euro coin has the theme '200 Years of the Greek Revolution'. On 25th March, 1821 the war between the Greeks and the Ottoman Empire began, a war that lasted no less than 11 years! This is nothing compared to the 368 year-long Turkish occupation of Greece, which lasted from 1453 to 1821! The Ottoman Empire's goal was to convert all Greek Christians to Islam. The Ottoman Empire wanted to occupy Europe completely so several countries decided to attack Turkey and push it back from Greece. 25th March is now a National Holiday in Greece - a day when they celebrate their Independence. On the face of the coin the Greek flag is depicted surrounded by bay leaves. Furthermore, in Greek text, is written '200 Years since the Greek Revolution and Hellenic Republic'. The years 1821 - 2021 are also shown. The coin is packaged in a printed coin holder.
