On 25th March, 1821 the war between the Greeks and the Ottoman Empire began, a war that lasted no less than 11 years. This is nothing compared to the 368 year-long Turkish Occupation of Greece, which lasted from 1453 to 1821. The Ottoman Empire's goal was to convert all Greek Christians to Islam. The Ottoman Empire wanted to completely occupy Europe, so several countries decided to attack Turkey and push it back from Greece. 25th March is now a National Day in Greece, a day when they celebrate their Independence.
