Product Description
Greece has issued a beautiful 5 Euro coin with the theme of the tulip 'Tulipa Goulimyi'. The flora of Greece is one of the most interesting in Europe. It contains a total of no less than 5,837 different varieties! 23.1% of which are endemic, meaning that they only occur in Greece and nowhere else in the world. This is because Greece consists of around 6,000 islands where many islands have unique plant species. The Tulipa Goulimyi was discovered in 1954 by Constantine Goulimis. These beautiful tulips are only found in the south-eastern islands. The tulip prefers to grow at low altitudes between 0 and 600 metres, mainly in rocky areas. The tulip only flowers for 6 weeks, from the end of March to the beginning of May. The flower is usually bright red, but very occasionally the flower is yellow! The Tulipa Goulimyi is an extremely rare and endangered plant species and is on the list of protected plant species. The face of the coin shows the tulip, beautifully coloured, as it actually blooms! Even the bulb from which the tulip blooms is displayed in colour. Furthermore, the name 'Tulipa Goulimyi' is displayed. The tulip is also depicted on the reverse of the coin. The coat of arms of Greece is shown at the top of the coin with the value indication of 5 Euro at the bottom right. The coin is presented in a beautiful package with some beautiful images of this highly protected tulip!
