Greece BU 2020 Lesbos

The theme of the BU set of Greece 2020 is the island of Lesbos. Lesbos is one of the largest islands in Greece, measuring more than 69.5 kilometres in length and almost 45 kilometres in width. Lesbos is a mountainous island with Lepetimnos being the highest peak at 968 metres. The island was formed by volcanic eruptions millions of years ago. This can be seen in the west of the island which is very arid and barren. One of the hottest hot springs in Europe, called Polichnitos, is also found on this island. The water, which is over 90 degrees, is cooled to 44 degrees and is used in many baths. The water also appears to have a healing effect. Lesbos is also known for its many olive trees - scattered across the island there are no less than 12 million.
