Product Description

Unfortunately the well-known coin master Maarten Brouwer had to end his career at KNM at the end of 2015. From the year 2003, the Dutch Euro coins had as the mint master mark a sailboat. If the mint master's position is vacant, the coins are still struck with the coin sign of the last mint master, however, to indicate that the job is vacant, a minuscule asterisk is added to the mint mark. From the end of 2017, the Netherlands has a new coin master, Mr. Satijn who chose the æServaasÆ bridge in Maastricht as his mint mark. This so-called transition set contains the Dutch Euro coins from 2015 to 2017. In 2016 and 2017 there were two other temporary acting coin masters who did not have their own mint marks so the sailboat with an asterisk is seen on the Dutch Euro coins of these years. By the end of the year 2017 there are a small number of coins struck with the Servaas bridge as the mint mark. All in all, a complex story with these coins, which in our opinion is of secondary importance to the euro coins of the various euro countries. This transition set is, unfortunately, very expensive, despite the fact that the nominal value of the set is no more than 20 Euro. We can very well imagine that the collector will pass this set over and wait until 2018 to buy the much cheaper 2018 Dutch coins which will have the Servaas bridge as the mint mark. Still, for those who want this set, we have included it in our catalogue.
