Product Description

The well-known coin master Maarten Brouwer had to end his career at KNM by the end of 2015. From the year 2003, the Dutch Euro coins had as their mint mark a sailboat. If the mint master's position is vacant the coins are still struck with the mint mark of the last coin master, however, to indicate that the job is vacant, a tiny asterisk is added to the mint mark. From the end of 2017 the Netherlands will have a new mint master, Mr. Satijn who has chosen the æServaasÆ bridge in Maastricht, as his mint mark. This so-called transition set in the Quality Proof contains the Dutch Euro coins from 2015 to 2017. In 2016 and 2017 there were two other temporary acting mint masters who did not have their own mint marks, the sailboat with a tiny asterisk are seen on the Dutch Euro coins of these years. By the end of the year 2017 there a small number of coins will be struck with the Servaas bridge as the mint mark. All in all, a complex story with these coins, which in our opinion is actually of secondary importance to the euro coins of the various euro countries. Unfortunately, this Proof quality transition set is very expensive, despite the fact that the nominal value of the set is less than 20 Euro. It's a very nice set, the coins are presented in a luxury wooden package. We can very well imagine that the collector will pass over this set and wait until 2018 to buy the much cheaper 2018 Dutch Proof Set which will have the Servaas bridge as their mint mark. Still, for those who want this Proof Set we have included it in our catalogue.
