Italy 10 Euro 2019 "Christopher Columbus"

Christopher Columbus (1451-1506) is seen as the most famous explorer of his time. Christopher Columbus thought he had reached India in 1492, but in reality he discovered a completely new continent - America! It wasn't long before Europe colonized both North America and South America. Especially the large amounts of raw materials, and the huge plains of land, were seen as a miracle. Columbus is known for his four voyages of discovery where, in addition to America, he also discovered the Bahamas, Cuba, Haiti, Puerto Rico, Trinidad, Panama, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic. Christopher Columbus knew the circular wind system of the Atlantic so well that sailing on the Atlantic became relatively easy for him. This beautiful silver 10 Euro coin has been attractively finished with golden-coloured highlights. On the face of the coin is a fragment of a portrait of Christopher Columbus which was painted by Ridolfi Ghirlandaio. In the background a golden early sextant is depicted. This measures the angular height of a celestial body relative to the horizon. On the left is the text REPUBBLICA ITALIANA (Republic of Italy). On the reverse of the coin is a portion of a work by Gustav Adolf Closs which shows the first trip by Christopher Columbus. His name, in Italian, (CHRISTOFORO COLOMBO), is shown at the top of the coin, in an arc, with the value indication of 10 Euro below his name. The year 2019 is shown at the bottom.
