The Duomo of Milan (Duomo Santa Maria Nascente), also known as the Cathedral of Milan, is the largest Roman Catholic Cathedral in Italy, making it the second largest Cathedral in the world. The cathedral is in the centre of Milan and attracts many millions of visitors every year. Unique to this cathedral is that one can even enter the roof! The construction of this colossal structure started in 1386 and was completed nearly 600 years later in 1950. The cathedral consists of many dozens of turrets and if three statues are visited every day, after a year not even half of the statues have been viewed! The cathedral contains thousands of images and many beautiful items which are hundreds of years old. The Duomo of Milan is no less than 92 metres wide and 157 metres high. From the roof of the cathedral, in clear weather, the Alps are visible! The face of the coin shows Milan Cathedral in its full glory.
