Italy 2 Euro 2020 Montessori

The subject of the 2020 Italian 2 Euro coin is 'Maria Montessori' who was one of the first female Italian doctors, and was also a skilled educator. Maria Montessori has become best known today with her school style that works from an educational conviction. A child has a natural urge for self-development and this urge is at the heart of the Montessori schools. By using the right materials in the right environment, the child is stimulated to develop him- or herself. Usually in a Montessori class there are two or three age groups. According to Maria Montessori this leads to the best form of education as younger children can learn from the older children. Maria Montessori was born 150 years ago which is why Italy has decided to issue a special 2 Euro coin. On the face of this coin is a portrait of Maria Montessori with her first name on the left and her surname at the bottom of the coin. A number of educational materials, that are included in her didactic teaching method, are also shown. The letters 'RI'(Repubblica Italiana) and the letter 'R' denoting the Mint of Rome are also displayed. The coin is packed in a printed coin holder.
