Product Description
History was written on 20th July, 1969. It was the first time that a human foot set foot on the moon! This was no mean feat as the journey to the moon is no less than 363,345 kilometres! The earth's circumference is 40,075 kilometres. It was NASA, the space program of the United States, that made this manned moon landing a reality. The first man to set foot on the moon was Neil Armstrong, the photo was taken by his fellow astronaut Buzz Aldrin. The first rocket that landed on the moon was not from NASA but from the Soviet Union under the name Loena, but this was an unmanned flight. Only Americans have ever set foot on the moon, a total of 12 people! The designer of these rockets is rocket scientist Werner von Braun, this man also developed the so-called V2 rockets in the 2nd World War, but luckily this development took too long. It is 50 years since men first stepped onto the moon and that is why Italy has decided to issue a special 5 Euro coin. On the face of the coin the earth and the moon are depicted as seen from space. In addition there are many lies which represent the orbits of the satellite. On the reverse of the coin Neil Armstrong's most famous sentence of all time "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind" is printed. The first footprint of Neil Armstrong is shown symbolically on the coin, above which is the value indication of 5 Euro. The years 1969 and 2019 are also shown on the coin. The coin is presented in an attractive package.
