Italy 5 Euro 2022 'Dante - Purgatory'. Dante Alighieri died 700 years ago in the year 1321. To commemorate this Italy has issued this special 5 Euro coin. Dante, along with Boccaccio and Petrarch, had a major influence on the Cultural Renewal of his time. This led to more Humanism and modern culture. Dante is not only an icon of literature but also very influential on the medieval culture. He has masterfully described this in his famous works. Internationally, his works are still regarded as the greatest literary masterpieces. The work 'Purgatory' was written by Dante in the year 1316. The face of the coin shows Purgatory surrounded by the sea, the sun and the stars. Above Purgatory the divine forest burns. Furthermore, the text PURO E DISPOSTO A SALIRE A LE STELLE (Pure and ready to climb to the stars) is shown together with the value indication of 5 Euro and the year of issue, 2022.
