2023 Italy 5 Euro coin 'Environmental Protection'. Italy is very careful with its biodiversity and environment and has laid down protection for this in Article 9 of the Italian Constitution. Italy has at least 24 protected National Parks, 8 biosphere reserves and no less than 52 Ramsar Wetlands. A Ramsar Wetland is a Bird Directive area that receives extra protection, whereby the flora and fauna is disturbed as little as possible. The flora and fauna in Italy is so immensely diverse that new species are still discovered every year. To protect its nature and reflect its pride, Italy has decided to issue this special 5 Euro coin. A plant growing from a seed is depicted on the face of the coin. This plant and two flying butterflies are shown in the colours of the Italian flag. The year of issue and the value of 5 Euro can also be seen. In the background a caterpillar is shown sitting on a branch. The country name, Republicca Italie, (Italy) is also shown. The coin is presented in a beautiful package.
