Latvia 2 Euro 2018 Semigallia

This is the fourth and last coin of the series of special 2 Euro coins that Latvia has issued highlighting its four provinces. The first special 2 Euro coin was issued in 2016 (Vidzeme). Letgallia and Courland followed in 2017 and this series ends in 2018 with the province of Zemgale (Semigallia). This special 2 Euro coin has as theme the province Zemgale. The Latvian Province of Zemgale lies in the south of Latvia and is largely bordered by Lithuania. Zemgale has an area of approximately 10, 700 sq.km. and has almost 300,000 inhabitants. The capital of Zemgale is Jelgava and Zemgale has traditionally been closely linked to the province of Courland. On the coin one is the Coat of Arms of Zemgale, a Reindeer is portrayed standing, looking to the left. Above the coat of arms is the country name Latvija (Latvia) and under the coat of arms is the province name Zemgale. On the right side of the coin the year 2018 is shown. The edge lettering of the coin is called DIEVS * SVETI * LATVIJU (God Bless Latvia).
