Product Description

This is the fourth and last coin of the series of special 2 Euro coins that Latvia has issued highlighting its four provinces. The first special 2 Euro coin was issued in 2016 (Vidzeme). Letgallia and Courland followed in 2017 and this series ends in 2018 with the province of Zemgale (Semigallia). This special 2 Euro coin has as theme the province Zemgale. The Latvian Province of Zemgale lies in the south of Latvia and is largely bordered by Lithuania. Zemgale has an area of approximately 10, 700 sq.km. and has almost 300,000 inhabitants. The capital of Zemgale is Jelgava and Zemgale has traditionally been closely linked to the province of Courland. On the coin one is the Coat of Arms of Zemgale, a Reindeer is portrayed standing, looking to the left. Above the coat of arms is the country name Latvija (Latvia) and under the coat of arms is the province name Zemgale. On the right side of the coin the year 2018 is shown. The edge lettering of the coin is called DIEVS * SVETI * LATVIJU (God Bless Latvia). We have this coin available from stock mounted in a beautiful Coincard. This coincard of Latvia has the same dimensions as, for example, the coincards of Belgium or the Netherlands. On the front of the coincard is the map of Latvia where Zemgale is extra accentuated. Furthermore, the coat of arms of Zemgale, a grey-coloured reindeer with a blue background, is depicted. On the back of the coincard is the technical specification of the coin and the coincard. Remarkably, the coin is minted in Germany at the State Mint in Stuttgart, which is the mint where the German coins with the letter æFÆ are struck.
